A windy, rainy, cold day.  We slept late, drank mimosas (ish – cranberry juice instead of orange) with breakfast, and puttered in the main salon all morning, appreciating $3 shore power and an electric space heater.  After lunch, we donned foulies and scootered to the Food Lion on the outskirts of town.  Two Gorton’s Fishermen-looking folks kicking scooters down the road seem to draw out the best in people – smiles, waves, and even pausing to talk – which just reinforces our satisfaction at refraining from the use of courtesy cars and taxis.  Plus, it’s fun!  …even in the rain, though be mindful that the brake won’t work when wet…

Back at Grace, we stowed the groceries.  Then we took to the streets again, this time to cross Queen Anne Creek to visit the Johnston Family Cemetery and the Hayes Farm/Plantation.

Hayes was recently purchased for preservation by the town of Edenton.  It’s not open to the public yet, but it can be viewed from the lane.

The temperature continued to drop; my hands were feeling the cold and Dobbs was scootered out.  We retreated to Grace for a warming meal of chili and fresh-baked corn bread.
